40+ years of experience in production and post-production. One mission — to help open the doors of show business for the next generation of creatives, filmmakers, and artists.
Background
"There's no business like show business."
Those words from the classic song and film inspired me as a young boy, and they've guided my entire life ever since. Show business thrilled me then, and it still does today. Every challenge, every long night, every impossible deadline, every magical moment — I've loved all of it.
My name is Jod Soraci, and I've worked in film and television production and post-production since 1981. I started at the bottom in New York City, working on productions like Sesame Street as a boom operator and utility person, even helping rig Big Bird's camera so he could see where he was going. I also worked on soap operas and television productions while learning the business from the ground up.
In 1983, I began my journey as a film Colorist at The Tape House Editorial in NYC. Starting as an assistant, I worked my way into the colorist chair through hard work, passion, and determination. But I dreamed bigger. Hollywood was calling.
That dream first brought me to Hollywood, Florida, where I joined Video Tape Associates (VTA) during the development of the revolutionary DaVinci color grading system. I worked directly on the prototype system known as "The Wiz," helping shape a technology that would forever change the industry. It was an extraordinary experience to sit behind that machine as the art and technology of color grading evolved in real time.
During those years, I worked on projects including music videos for the Miami Sound Machine — "Conga," "Bad Boys," and "Falling in Love" — collaborating closely with Gloria and Emilio Estefan before the world fully understood the impact they would have on music history.
Eventually, I made my way to Hollywood, California — the true film capital of the world — where I became Senior Colorist at American Video Factory in Marina del Rey, the only Los Angeles post house at the time equipped with a DaVinci system. There, I went on to become one of Hollywood's leading music video Colorists, working on iconic projects from the mid-1980s onward.
Over the years, I've worked with artists, filmmakers, and studios to create images that pushed beyond the limits of what people thought was possible at the time. Whether it was Ozzy Osbourne's "Crazy Babies," the opening sequence for The Wonder Years, or countless other projects, my goal was always the same: create something unforgettable.
I've always believed that being a great Colorist is not just about technology — it's about emotion, instinct, storytelling, and imagination. The tools matter, but the artistry matters more.
I did it the old-fashioned way: I earned it. I worked my way up from the bottom through passion, sacrifice, and relentless dedication to the craft. That journey taught me not only how to succeed in this business, but how to survive in it creatively and personally.
Today, I consult because I genuinely love helping the next generation of filmmakers, editors, colorists, and post-production artists find their own path. If you're looking for shortcuts, I'm probably not your guy. But if you truly love this business — if you have the passion, the drive, and the willingness to pay your dues — I would be honored to help guide you.
Because there really is no business like show business.
